What now...?
Yesterday, my lip started swelling (a large bump on the left hand side, inside my mouth). I took some Benadryl and it went down. Today, the same thing happened, and I had some hives on my back. I have an idea of the food that might be causing it (Mott's Fruitsations fruit snacks). What do I do now? Should I try to figure out the ingredient that is causing this, or just go to the doctor? I just don't know where to get the ingredients themselves (eg. carnauba wax, soy protein, etc.). It isn't a bad reaction yet, I know what to do if it is.
Your best bet is to go to the doctor and ask him to order Immunocap Allergy testing for you. Immunocap is an IGE based bloodtest and has a high sensitivity and specificity. It is much easier than going to an allergist for skin prick testing. The doctor will have the results in two days and your insurance will most likely cover it. There are two panels to have him order, one is the environmental and inhalent panel, the other is the food panel. It is most likely you have more than one allergy. 97% of people with allergies are allergice to more than one thing. A national lab who does this test is Quest Diagnostics. I would think you would have one in your area. This way you will find out what it is you are allergic to and you can then avoid it. Good luck and I hope I have helped.
