How do you make soap set? Or harden up?
I have a whole buch of bars of soap, hand/bath soaps, that I left in water in a plastic bag for a few weeks. So now that they are all very soft, I mushed them all together and thought I would make some little cute soaps, either by forming or using a mold, etc. Well the soap is so soft and sticky/fluffy, (just like the consistancy of marshmellow creme fluff)!! I can't figure out how to get it a little harder, (like putty or clay)? Is there some ingrediant that I can use or do i just let it sit for awhile and dry out before trying to play with it again? Also what are some cheap good smelly stuff and colorant that I can add to make soap unique?

I do make soap, but I normally use the cold process method.
Many people grate bar soap and then put it in a double boiler with a very small amount of water, then heat it slowly till the soap melts, stiring so as not to make suds, but enough to mix the soap and incorporate the water, this is called rebatch or milling.
When the soap is melted, you can then add ingredients that would make the soap more luxurious, herbs, oils, essential oils, spices, color ect, after mixing these in you would then pour or spoon melted soap into molds and leave to harden, when the soap is hard the next day, you would want to remove it from the mold, if it dosent want to come out you could put soap molds in the freezer till very cold, then try again to push out the soap, once the soap is out of the mold, you will want to let the soap dry or cure for some time depending on how fresh the origional soap was to begin with.
Your problem:
You might be able to cook the soap in a double boiler, or in a crock pot on low to cook out some of the water, be very careful so that you don't boil over the soap, you could be burned by hot soap, leave 4-5 inches of head room in your pot in case the soap swells up when cooking, when the soap is a thick consistancy but still pourable you could then pour into molds, once in the molds let the soap harden over night, the next day remove the soap from the mold, let dry for a week or so till you are happy with the results, if this were fresh soap you would let cure for 4-6 weeks, but if it is store bought soap there should not be any lye to worry about.
You can use food colors from the kitchen to color, also some spices can be used for color, you could also use some spices to give it some scent. You might try cocoa powder, a table spoon or two depending on how much soap there is.
Be very careful if you do decide to cook the soap, soap when heated can swell and spill all over the place, make sure your pot or container is large enough if the soap were to double in size, just to be safe. Soap might catch on fire if it gets close to a flame. Some people make candles with oils and fats.
