What is the amount of oil and flowers used in the process of maceration-extraction?
Or does the amount not matter? What's the ratio? For example, if I have 1 cup of oil, should I also use 1 cup of chopped flowers?

The amount of herbal material varies with the contents of essential oil in the plants. In the middle you need for every cup of oil 1/4 of an ounce of herbs. In this publication you also find the extraction methods. But it`s better to take a non smelling oil instead of olive oil to keep the aroma of extract pure.

If there is a very little content of essential oil in the flower or herb you want to extract, you can use the method of "enfleurage", a specific kind of maceration:

To your second question: In my opinion the significance of perfume changes with people using it, like the scents changing their aroma with the skin they are put on.
